In my English class, we watched a film called "The Mission," following the story line of a Jesuit priest taking interest in converting the Guarani Indian Tribe to Christianity. In the movie, it showed the Spanish and the Portuguese as power hungry nations, ignorant to the rights of the native tribes. I chose to categorize The Mission as 'Investigate the World," I was able to see multiple sides of history, that of the colonizing nations and the native tribes they oppressed on their quest to acquire as much land and power as possible. This film highlights the perspective of the natives, in that they are more than just the savage and uncivilized people they are often made out to be, and that they have their own culture just as the Spanish and the Portuguese do. This film helps me answer my question because it shows a detailed example of European colonization and the impact it has on the natives.
