History Socratic seminar
In APUSH during the first semester, we learned a lot about the relations between European settlers, then later Americans, and the native Americans. During the time period of our lesson, we were studying the presidency of Andrew Jackson, who was known for Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears. For the socratic seminar, we were split into groups and then given someone to represent in the debate. My group was given President Andrew Jackson, so we were arguing the point that it was for the greater good to remove the Native Americans from their land. The purpose of this socratic seminar was to explore the different opinions and perspectives of the different groups and for this reason, I chose to include this assignment under the pillar of recognizing perspectives. Representing Andrew Jackson required our group to step out of our comfort zone and argue a point we may not agree with, but never the less, recognize his perspective on the issue and represent it.
