Our big junior year project was our IBL project, and with this, we were required to do extensive research into a topic we were most passionate about, concerning Native Americans. I chose the topic of voting rights and legal representation because I believe that a lot of the issues natives face can be traced back to their lack of legal representation and the fact that the federal government assumes complete control over livelihoods in reservations. I chose to put this under the "Investigate the World" pillar, because with this project, we were not given readings or articles, we had to go out and find the information on our own. This way, I was able to focus on parts that I believed most important and discover things that I would not have known. My research contributed to the answering of my question because I was able to gain a perspective about how Natives being marginalized and forced into reservations raised issues of legal representation.
