For English, one of our homework assignments was to read an article called "Ugg A Wugg," an interview discussing the changing of the lyrics of the musical. In this article, it addresses the ethics behind creating such an ignorant and racist piece to be shown to the public, because it plays into those negative stereotypes of the natives being savage, uncivilized and uneducated. I chose to put this article under "Communicate Ideas" because it allowed for the creators of this musical to have their voice heard, as well as bring up the ethical and social issues behind it. This article helps me answer my question because it explores how racism and negativity towards natives has existed in films, plays, musicals, etc. that just drag on these stereotypes by introducing them to children.
