In English, we watched a movie called Smoke Signals, following the story of two native American boys in modern time. The movie plays into key native stereotypes by creating a 'caricature' of those stereotypes through the characters. Victor, being the more stoic, warrior like stereotype, and Thomas following the story teller stereotype. The movie also shows the struggles of Native Americans living on reservations and their isolation from normal American society even today. I chose to put this under "Investigate the World" because the movie makes the audience realize the stereotypes they may unconsciously have about natives and a view into the life of natives on traditional reservations. This answers my question because it shows the effects of white encroachment through the allusions to alcohol abuse and widespread poverty that exists on reservations, as well as this character natives try to hold of the stoic warrior for the rest of society.
