In English class, we had a socratic seminar, debating over traditional racial stereotypes associated with Native Americans. Prior to the debate, we had read multiple articles, exploring different views on the matter as well as watching the infamous "Savages" music video from the movie Pocahontas. I chose to put this under "Recognizing Perspectives," because I was able to hear the opinions of my classmates on their views on the racial stereotypes placed on natives, and even though I may disagree with some opinions, it is still good to have the opportunity to hear another side. This activity helps me answer my question because we were able to delve in deeper into the idea of these negative stereotypes, and how they came to be, much of it tracing back to white encroachment and views by the colonizers of the natives.
